The Center for Grief and Loss for Children

The Center for Grief and Loss for Children provides individual and group counseling in a supportive environment to bereaved families and hurting children after a death or separation from a loved one. The Center also provides grief and loss training for therapists, clinicians, teachers, after-school personnel, clergy, parents and volunteers. The Center for Grief and Loss is unique-in many ways. It is the only agency that provides free services to its clients in Los Angeles who have experienced a loss through death. It is the only service that accepts special needs children and incorporates their care into the regular children's groups (by assigning one-on-one care for this child) and the only service that also offers groups to the parents that focus on support and the care of their children.

The nucleus programs established at The Center for Grief and Loss for Children are:

SUPPORT GROUPS - Group sessions are provided for children and their families for healing from grief and loss experiences with an emphasis on multi-cultural facilitators and support groups. The sessions are free to all family members in English and Spanish. Statistics support that grieving children who attend bi-weekly support groups benefit from the concrete support, delivered with sensitivity and understanding, thereby achieving positive and successful re-attachment with other children and adults who have had similar experiences. Parents are encouraged to take the 7 hour training course to better understand their child's grief process.

GRIEF AND LOSS TRAINING - The Center provides grief and loss training for therapists, clinicians, teachers, after-school personnel, clergy persons, parents and volunteers to provide concrete and supportive counseling for children and teens.
